Joker movie poster starring Joaquin PhoenixThe newest DC film, Joker, has topped the weekend box office, pushing last weekend’s box office winner, Abominable, to second place. Debuting in 4,374 theaters, Joker earned an estimated $93.5 million, breaking the October opening weekend record set last year by Venom, with $80.3 million.  This also makes it the fourth largest opening ever for an R-rated film. The film is generating Oscar buzz for Joaquin Phoenix in the title role. Dropping one spot to second, the animated film Abominable earned an additional $12 million for a two-week total of $37.8 million. Still going strong in its third weekend, Downton Abbey dropped a spot to third place, taking in an extra $8 million for a three-week total of $73.6 million. Click here to read our review and here to view our exclusive photos of Downton Abbey filming locations. Rounding out the top five was IT: Chapter Two, which moved down a spot after enjoying two weeks in fourth place.     Interesting that the violent and twisted horror movie are the favorites of the majority of movie goers. Even with the recent senseless mass shootings in our country, these movies persist to draw crowds.Has innocence and morality become a thing of the past in the world of movies? God I hope not! it is not surprising that a mentally ill person, or a person on drugs might think this is a challenge to their imagination and prompt them to go out and do the same. if people would not attend these movies, Hollywood would change their venue. maybe we would go back to stories where one would leave the theater feeling uplifted and not drawn down with anger, anxiety, and repulsion. there is enough going on in our country that is diving the country, and causing depression and frustration. Just someone tell me why it is entertaining to watch innocent people getting killed, and immoral characters suffer. You wonder what our children are going to grow up to see if it continues. it is evil.
