Serious, absorbing, even compelling, this is mature filmmaking for an audience that values character and thought over crashes and explosions, true-to-life ambivalence over a contrived happy ending. It is paced for a patient movie lover, not for one who needs fast speed and loud noises.

Very slow moving. Although Juliette Binoche is a wonderful actress, the film was extremely slow. Binoche suffers through relationship after relationship in an excruciating search for self-worth. Her "beau soleil interieur," as it is titled in French is brought to light by the final male savior of the film, Gerard Depardieu. An interminable 1 hour and 36 minutes.
